The learning experience
Flexible learning. Shared responsibilities. A clear plan.
FlexED HSE combines academic learning and adult-readiness skills in a parent-supported online high school experience. Every family begins with a review of the student’s needs and graduation goals.
1. Begin with a Diploma Pathway Review
Share your student’s current grade range, learning setting, expected credential, and goals. You do not need to upload an IEP, diagnosis, or medical records to start a conversation.
2. Review records and support needs
Before enrollment, the school reviews prior coursework and relevant learning evidence. Families discuss how much daily assistance the student needs, what support the parent can provide, and which school services are available.
3. Agree on the pathway
The written plan should identify accepted credits, remaining requirements, learning approaches, accommodations, progress reviews, and the responsibilities of the student, parent, and school. Tuition and enrollment terms should be provided before a family commits.
4. Build a workable weekly routine
A student’s week can combine academic coursework, project work, reading and discussion, practical life-skills activities, and community learning. The combination, pacing, and supports depend on the approved plan.
Student’s role
- Participate using appropriate accommodations.
- Practice routines and request help.
- Submit work and reflect on progress.
- Use feedback to improve learning.
Parent or supporting adult’s role
- Help establish a safe learning environment.
- Support routines, practice, and task completion.
- Document real-world learning as agreed.
- Communicate challenges and changing needs.
FlexED’s role
Provide the specialized program and family experience around the agreed learning plan. Clarify available guidance, instructional resources, and support before enrollment.
WonderED’s role
Serve as the school of record and diploma issuer for 2026–27, review academic records and credit evidence, and determine whether applicable graduation requirements have been completed.
5. Make learning visible
Evidence may include completed coursework, project artifacts, written or recorded explanations, portfolios, and agreed observation records. A photo or parent observation alone does not automatically establish course credit; school review determines how evidence meets requirements.
A student can demonstrate practical competence while using a checklist, communication device, timer, or agreed adult assistance. The support used should be documented alongside the skill. Academic diploma criteria remain a separate school determination.
6. Review progress and next steps
Use progress reviews to identify completed requirements, remaining work, and needed changes. Graduation follows successful completion of the school’s requirements, rather than a promised deadline.
Discuss services before making a change
FlexED is not advertised as a replacement for every public-school special education service. Ask specifically about teaching support, related services, accessibility, supervision, and any support your family must arrange separately. Discuss public-school withdrawal and transition eligibility with your district.
